RE:       Heparin Level Test

The 547L Heparin Level / Anti-Xa assay quantitates the plasma level of heparin for purposes of managing the patient’s therapy.  The laboratory uses the same type of heparin or hepranoid that the patient is receiving for calibration of the assay.  The types currently used are unfractionated, Lovenox, Fragmin, and Orgaran.

Effective 1/14/02, we will report the type of heparin used for testing so that the physician will have this information in the patient’s record.

Please help us provide the quickest and most accurate results by always marking the heparin type on the test requisition.  If you are unable to determine the heparin type, the laboratory will use unfractionated porcine heparin for testing.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call client services at  1-(800) 967-9672 or
(412) 209-7270
.

Thank you for choosing our laboratory.
